    - In this paper, the authors present a discussion of the technical aspects of light emitting diode (LED) traffic signals. Estimates are given regarding the potential savings if all traffic signal lights in London were replaced by LEDs. The paper also presents information regarding a pilot test site to be established in early 1998 which will evaluate the performance of LED traffic signals.
